Health and Social Care
BTEC Level 2 Diploma

Optional units include health care for children, older service users, disabilities, first aid, nutrition and creative activities.

“BCoT was recommended to me for courses in health and social care even though I live in Reading. The travel concessions offered by the college and an excellent rail service made travelling by train easy. In fact leaving my comfort zone and having to arrange things and look after myself, has helped make me more independent and confident.
The National Diploma is really good, very broad and includes lots of interesting subjects such as environmental health, public health, rights and legislation and psychology. The public health module was particularly interesting as we learnt about development of the health service from the beginning.
I have always wanted to become a nurse but was unsure of the age group with which I wanted to work. My work experience at a residential care home for the elderly and children’s nurseries provided excellent opportunities for comparison and made me realise that I prefer working with children. I find it amusing to watch their behaviour and personalities – it’s such fun. Any sick children I have met don’t blame anyone for their illness, instead they seem happy to just get on with their lives. It will be a privilege to work with them.
I am just an ordinary student who has been given an extraordinary opportunity to work at Great Ormond Street Hospital in London, one of the most prestigious children’s hospitals in the world. The National Diploma course has extended my knowledge, focused me on what I want to do, broadened my horizons and provided opportunities to further my qualifications at university.”
